A commutative 2-cocycle on a Lie algebra \(L\) over a field \(K\) is a symmetric bilinear form \(\varphi: L\times L\rightarrow K\) satisfying the usual cocycle equation \( \varphi([x, y], z) + \varphi([z, x], y) +\varphi([y, z], x) = 0 \) for \(x, y, z\in L\). Commutative 2-cocycles naturally appear in the study of nonassociative algebras satisfying certain skew-symmetric identities, and in the description of the second cohomology of current Lie algebras. The authors establish their relationship with antiderivations and compute them for some classes of Lie algebras, including finite-dimensional semisimple, current and Kac-Moody algebras.
