Let G be a connected reductive algebraic group defined over a finite field having q elements. Let F be a corresponding Frobenius endomorphism and let \(G(q^ m)=\{g\in G: F^ m(g)=g\}\) be a finite group of Lie type where m is a positive integer. The paper is devoted to lifting theory of these finite groups, in particular to lifting theory of \(G_ 2(q)\) and certain principal series representation of groups of adjoint type.
