The author [J. Math. Econ. 8, 173-200 (1981; Zbl 0455.90005)] extended the notion of Nash social welfare function due to the author and \textit{K. Nakamura} [Econometrica 47, 423-435 (1979; Zbl 0431.90091)] to the case of a continuum of agents. This paper presents a new characterization with the continuum hypothesis in which a continuity axiom has been deleted and provides a shorter proof.
