Modulus of stability for vectorfields on 3-manifolds (Q802185): Difference between revisions

Let X be a vectorfield on \(M^ 3\) which exhibits a quasi-transversal saddle connection between a singularity \(p_ 1\) and a periodic orbit \(\sigma_ 1\). We give necessary conditions, which in several cases are also sufficient, for the vectorfield X to have finite modulus of stability. A main condition is that for each saddle \(\sigma\) (a singularity or a periodic orbit) both \(W^ s(p_ 1)\cap W^ u(\sigma)\) and \(W^ u(\sigma_ 1)\cap W^ s(\sigma)\) must consist of finitely many orbits.
