A class of nonstationary linear iterative methods for the least squares solution of inconsistent linear problems in Hilbert spaces is investigated. It is shown that iterations consisting of a quasi-cyclic sequence of orthogonal projections converge to a projection of the solution, and to a common fixed point of the projections if one exists. It is further shown that for the cyclic relaxation, the product of the iteration operators converges in norm, and some other special cases are studied. A well known special case is the Kaczmarz method.
