Reworking ideas from \textit{P. Nevai} [SIAM J. Math. Anal. 10, 472--477 (1979; Zbl 0416.42013)], the author proves two results for polynomials orthogonal on the unit circle with respect to a finite positive Borel measure \(\sigma\). Introducing the \textit{reversed} polynomials \[ \varphi^{*}(z)=z^n\overline{\varphi(1/\overline{z})}, \] the first result, without assuming Szegő's condition, is Theorem A. Let \(J\) be a subinterval of \([0,2\pi)\), and assume that \[ \lim_{n\rightarrow\infty}\,\varphi^{*}(e^{i\theta})=g(\theta), \] uniformly for \(\theta\in J\), where \(g(\theta)\not=0\) for \(\theta\in J\). Let \(m\geq 1\) and \(I\subset J^{\circ}\) be a closed interval. Then uniformly for \(z=e^{i\theta},\,\theta\in I\), \[ \lim_{n\rightarrow\infty}\,z^m\varphi_n^{(m)}(z)/(n^m\varphi_n(z))=1. \] \vskip0.2cm The second result uses as input the existence of the well-known ratio asymptotics (in view of Rakhmanov's theorem a sufficient condition for this is \(\sigma'>0\) a.e. on \([0,2\pi]\)): Theorem B. Assume that \[ \lim_{n\rightarrow\infty}\,{\Phi_{n+1}(z)\over z\Phi_n(z)}=1, \] holds at some \(z\) with \(| z| =1\). Let \(m\geq 1\). Then uniformly in \(\{z\,:\,| z| \geq 1\}\), \[ \lim_{n\rightarrow\infty}\,{\Phi_{n+1}^{(m)}(z)\over z\Phi_n^{(m)}(z)}=1. \] This elegantly written paper does contain the proofs of the assertions (elements are ideas due to Nevai, the Markov-Bernstein inequalities, Faà di Bruno's formula for the derivatives of a composition of functions, an inequality due to Turán, the maximum modulus theorem).
