A locally finite simplicial tree, with a root \(X_0\), is called a Markov tree, see \textit{M. Gromov} [Hyperbolic groups, in Essays in group theory, Publ., Math. Sci. Res. Inst. 8, 75--263 (1987; Zbl 0634.20015)] if there are only finitely many isomorphism classes of rooted subtrees. Starting with a simplex, instead of the root \(X_0\), one defines an inverse system of simplicial complexes to be Markov with a similar definition. A limit of such a system is a Markov compactum. If the system is formed from a single map to a complex, and various pull-backs, we speak of the compactum defined by one building block. The goals of this paper are to study homological dimension. For example if \(X\) is an \(n\)-dimensional compactum defined by a building block \(L\to\Delta^n\), then \(\dim X^k = kn\) for all \(k\). There are results about various sets of primes and a connection with Serre's \({\mathcal C}\)-theory. Unfortunately, the results are very complex and are difficult to summarize here.
