The coincidence equation \[ f(x)=h(x)\tag{1} \] is considered, where \(f,h:X\to Y\) are continuous maps between Banach manifolds. The main theoretical result of the article is necessary and sufficient conditions for a coincidence point \(p\in M\) (\(M\) is the set of trivial solutions of (1)) to be a bifurcation point. Then these bifurcation results are naturally reformulated for the parametrized fixed point equation \(z=h(\lambda,z)\), in this case \(X=\mathbb R\times \mathbb Z\), \(Y=Z\), \(f\) is the projection \(\pi_2\) onto \(Z\), and a coincidence point \(x\) is a pair \((\lambda,z)\) with \(z\) a fixed point of the partial map \(h(\lambda,\cdot)\). As an example, for a delay differential equation \(x'(t)=\lambda F(t,x(t),x(t-1))\), where \(F\) is supposed to be \(T\)-periodic in the first variable, the periodic solutions that rotate to an equilibrium point are detected. The results obtained in this article can be considered as generalizations of those proved in [\textit{M. Furi, M. Martelli} and \textit{M. P. Pera}, Martelli, Mario (ed.) et al., Differential equations and applications to biology and to industry. Proceedings of the Claremont international conference dedicated to the memory of Stavros Busenberg (1941--1993), Claremont, CA, USA, June 1-4, 1994. World Scientific, 101--115 (1996; Zbl 0936.47039)] and [\textit{M. Furi} and \textit{M. P. Pera}, Nonlinear Funct. Anal. Appl. 11, 265--292 (2006; Zbl 1098.58011)], \(X\) and \(Y\) are Banach spaces in first quoted article and finite dimensional manifolds in the second one.
