In this long paper, Hamiltonians of two degrees of freedom with an invariant plane and normal variational equations are studied with respect to their integrability or non-integrability. A particular attention is paid to equations with polynomial or trigonometrical potentials. In these particular cases, all Galois groups of Hill-Schrödinger type equations are computed.
