From [\textit{J.\,Lindenstrauss} and \textit{L.\,Tzafriri}, ``Classical Banach Spaces.\ I: Sequences spaces'' (Ergebnisse der Mathematik und ihrer Grenzgebiete 92; Berlin-Heidelberg-New York: Springer-Verlag) (1977; Zbl 0362.46013)], we have the following Theorem. The unit vectors in an Orlicz sequence space \(\ell_M\) are a symmetric basis for \(\ell_M\) if \(M\) satisfies the \(\Delta_2\) condition at zero. Moreover, every such Orlicz sequence space contains an isomorphic copy of some \(\ell_p\), \(1\leq p<\infty\). Therefore, it follows that a reflexive \(\ell_M\) with a unique spreading model must be isomorphic to some \(\ell_p\), \(1<p<\infty\). A nonreflexive \(\ell_M\) is either isomorphic to \(\ell_1\) or it admits uncountably many spreading models generated by normalized weakly null sequences [\textit{B.\,Sari}, Can.\ Math.\ Bull.\ 50, No.\,1, 138--148 (2007; Zbl 1143.46005)]. These results contain the main result of this paper.
