This long paper is in fact a monograph on clones on infinite sets. It summarizes the current state of knowledge on clone lattices. It deals mainly with clones on infinite sets but many results for clone lattices on finite sets are also included. The paper consists of seven chapters, 23 open problems, and an extensive bibliography. It contains results on the cardinality and structure of clone lattices, the number of and, where possible, the description of precomplete (i.e. maximal) clones, and the structure of lattices of locally closed clones. Much information about the complexity of a full clone lattice is obtained from considering intervals in the lattice. In particular, the authors present results on the intervals of clones that contain all permutations, all unary operations, and the interval of clones above the clone of all idempotent functions.
