Some homological properties of Artinian modules (Q1018269): Difference between revisions

Let \((R,m)\) be a commutative noetherian local ring and \(M\) an Artinian \(R\)-module. Then one defines width\((M):=\inf\{i\;|\;\)Tor\(_i^R(R/m,M)\neq 0\}.\) In the paper it is shown that if \(R\) is Gorenstein and \(M\) is an Artinian \(R\)-module, then depth\((R)=\)width\((M)+\sup\{i\;|\;\)Ext\(_R^i(E(R/m),M)\neq 0\}.\) It is also shown that if \(R\) is a Cohen-Macaulay local ring, the following conditions are equivalent: \noindent 1) \(R\) is Gorenstein; \noindent 2) for any Artinian \(R\)-module \(M\), \(fd_R(E(M))\leq fd_R(M);\) \noindent 3) for any \(R\)-module \(M\) such that \(l(M)<\infty\) and \(id_R(M)<\infty,\) then \(id_R(F(M))=id_R(M),\) where \(F(M)\) is a flat cover of \(M.\)
