The article is devoted to approximation by the following operators that are a certain type of Baskakov-Durrmeyer operators. For \(x\in[0,\infty)\) and \(\alpha>0\), \[ B_{n,\alpha}(f,x)= \sum_{k=1}^\infty p_{n,k,\alpha}(x) \int_0^\infty b_{n,k,\alpha}(t)f(t)\,dt +(1+\alpha x)^{-n/\alpha}f(0)= \int_0^\infty W_{n,\alpha}(x,t)f(t)\,dt, \] where \[ \begin{aligned} p_{n,k,\alpha}(x)&= {\Gamma(n/\alpha+k)\over{\Gamma(k+1)\Gamma(n/\alpha)}} \cdot{(\alpha x)^k\over{(1+\alpha x)^{(n/\alpha)+k}}},\\ b_{n,k,\alpha}(t)&= {\alpha\Gamma(n/\alpha+k+1)\over{\Gamma(k)\Gamma(n/\alpha+1)}} \cdot{(\alpha t)^{k-1}\over{(1+\alpha t)^{(n/\alpha)+k+1}}},\\ \text{and} W_{n,\alpha}(x,t)&= \sum_{k=1}^\infty p_{n,k,\alpha}(x) b_{n,k,\alpha}(t)+(1+\alpha x)^{-n/\alpha}\delta(t), \end{aligned} \] where \(\delta(t)\) denotes the Dirac delta distribution. First, the author obtained some useful properties of the mentioned operators. Then, some direct theorems on local and global approximation of a function on \([0,\infty)\) are obtained. The approximation estimates are given in terms of modulus of smoothness. The next section is devoted to simultaneous approximation of functions from the space \(C_\gamma[0,\infty)\), \(\gamma>0\), that consists of functions \(f\in C[0,\infty)\) such that \(|f(t)|\leq Mt^\gamma\) for some \(M>0\). The norm in these spaces is given by \(\|f\|_\gamma=\sup_{0\leq t<\infty}|f(t)|t^{-\gamma}\). Let us cite one of the interesting results obtained here. Theorem. Let \(f\in C_\gamma[0,\infty)\). If \(f^{(r+2)}\) exists at a point \(x\in(0,\infty)\), then \[ \lim_{n\to\infty}n(B_{n,\alpha}^{(r)}(f,x) -f^{(r)}(x))= \alpha r(r-1)f^{(r)}(x) +r(1+2\alpha x)f^{(r+1)}(x)+ x(1+\alpha x)f^{(r+2)}(x). \] The article should be useful for specialists in approximation theory. One thing that the author could make is to show how the results obtained here may be employed to solve other problems of approximation theory or something else.
