The object of the paper is to investigate the nonlinear stability of the magnetic Bénard problem without the quasistatic approximation. It is proved that the basic state is nonlinearly stable if the Rayleigh number does not exceed a known increasing function of \(| \bar H|\), and the size of initial perturbations is below a computable constant depending on the parameters of the problem. It is assumed that the bounding planes are stress free, non-ferromagnetic with fixed temperatures and \(\bar H\) orthogonal to the layer of the fluid. A generalized energy method based on a certain type of energy functional is used to study the stability.
