Let K be a non-empty closed subset of a finite dimensional real normed linear space X. The paper is concerned with the three properties: (1) K is M-connected, (2) K is P-acyclic, (3) K is a sun. If Y is a bounded subset of X then M(Y) denotes the set \(\cap \{B:Y\subseteq B\), B is a closed ball of \(X\}\). The set K is defined to be M-connected if \(M(\{x,y\}) \neq \{x,y\}\) whenever \(x,y\in K\) and \(x\neq y\). The notions (2) and (3) are defined in the article by \textit{L. P. Vlasov}, Usp. Mat. Nauk 28, No.6(174) 3-66 (1973; Zbl 0291.41028). It is shown that \((1) \Rightarrow (2)\). It is known that \((2) \Rightarrow (3)\). A class of spaces is defined and referred to as (BM)-spaces. The class of finite dimensional (BM)-spaces is closed under the formation of \(\ell ^{\infty}\)-direct sums, contains every smooth space and every two dimensional space the unit sphere of which is polygon. If X is either a two-dimensional space or a (BM)-space then \((3) \Rightarrow (1)\). However there exist spaces in which there are suns which are P-acyclic but not M- connected. The final result of the paper shows that if X is finite dimensional and its unit sphere is a polytope then X is a (BM)-space if and only if X is an \(\ell ^{\infty}\)-direct sum of one and two- dimensional spaces. The results of the paper relate to work of \textit{L. Hetzelt} and \textit{H. Berens} [see in particular Aequationes Math. 27, 274-287 (1984; Zbl 0544.41025)].
