[For a review of the work mentioned in the title see Zbl 0612.53030.] Let \(M=G/T\) where G is a compact semisimple Lie group and T is a maximal torus of G. It is shown: (i) The only compact Lie group acting effectively and transitively on M is precisely \(G/(center\quad of\quad G).\) (ii) There exists an integer \(n_ 0\geq 2\) such that for any \(n\geq n_ 0\) and any G-invariant Riemannian metric, the space M admits the structure of an almost Hermitian n-symmetric space, which is not homeomorphic to the underlying manifold of an m-symmetric space for \(m=2,...,n_ 0-1\). (iii) If M is not an ordinary 2-symmetric space, then M admits naturally reductive Riemannian metrics but the space is non- commutative.
