Soit A une algèbre topologique. Une base \((e_ n)\) de A, considéré comme espace vectoriel topologique, est dite orthogonale lorsque \(e_ m\cdot e_ n=\delta_{mn}e_ n\) \((\delta_{mn}\) \(=\) symbole de Kronecker). On montre que toute base orthogonale d'une algèbre topologique est de Schauder, c'est-à-dire les formes linéaires associées sont continues. On donne aussi une caractérisation des \(\Phi\)-algèbres.
