The authors use catastrophe theory in theoretical cosmology to obtain a new classification of world models. They restrict themselves to a subspace of world models that can be presented in the form of gradient dynamical systems. The most of these cosmological models are nongeneric. If one requires that the actual universe be Friedman and generic then it must be flat.
