The authors consider the system \[ [\rho(u)+\lambda(w)]_t-u_{xx}=f(t,x),\;w_t-\{-\kappa w_{xx}+\xi+g(w)-\lambda'(w)u\}_{xx}=0,\;\xi\in\partial I_{[\sigma_*,\sigma^*]}(w) \] in \((0 +\infty)\times(-L,L)\) together with appropriate initial and boundary conditions. This system models the phase separation of a binary mixture; \(\rho(u)\) represents the absolute temperature and \(w\) the local concentration of one of the components (\(\sigma_*=0\leq w\leq 1=\sigma^*\)). The authors study the convergence of the solution to the solution of the corresponding stationary problem, and they investigate the structure of the solution set of the stationary problem.
