A new family \(\{\varphi_n\}_{n\geq 4}\) is constructed in the homotopy groups \(\pi_*(S^0)\) of a \(p\)-localized sphere spectrum \(S^0\). Here \(p\) denotes a prime \(\geq 7\) and \(\varphi_n\in\pi_{2(p-1)(p^n+3(p^2+p+1))-7}(S^0)\). The element \(\varphi_n\) is detected by \(b_{n-1}g_0\gamma_3\in E^7_2=\text{Ext}^7_{\mathcal A}(\mathbb{Z}/p,\mathbb{Z}/p)\) in the Adams spectral sequence, and obtained from R. Cohen's element \(\zeta_{n-1}\in\pi_{2(p-1)(p^n+1)-3}(S^0)\) which is detected by \(b_0b_{n-1}\in E^3_2\). Besides, \(\varphi_n\) is indecomposable even if it represents \(b_{n-1}g_0\gamma_3\in E^7_2\), since \(b_{n-1}g_0\) is not an essential homotopy element. Showing this, the main tool is the Adams spectral sequence, and essential facts are X. Zhou's results on the \(E_2\)-term \(\text{Ext}^{*,*}_{\mathcal A}(\mathbb{Z}/p,\mathbb{Z}/p)\). The element \(\varphi_n\) is constructed as follows: Let \(V(n)\) denote the Toda-Smith spectrum defined by the cofiber sequences \(\Sigma^{2p^n-2}V(n-1)@>\eta n>>V(n-1)@>i_n>>V(n)@>j_n>>\), where traditionally \(i_0=i\), \(j_0=j\), \(\eta_0=p\iota\), \(\eta_1=\alpha\), \(\eta_2=\beta\) and \(\eta_3=\gamma\). First it is shown the existence of the family \(\{\zeta_{n-1}''\}\subset\pi_*(V(1))\) such that \(j_1\zeta_{n-1}=ijj_1(\zeta_{n-1}\wedge 1_{V(1)})\) by using Toda's and Oka's results on the homotopy groups related to \(V(1)\). In fact, obstructions for the existence are computed by X. Zhou's results. Then it follows Theorem II saying that \(b_{n-1}g_0\in\text{Ext}^4_{\mathcal A}(H^*V(1),\mathbb{Z}/p)\) detects the element \(\psi_n=\zeta_{n-1}''\beta i_1i\in\pi_*(V(1))\). Now the element \(\varphi_n\) is shown to be a composition \(jj_1j_2\gamma^3i_2\psi_n\).
