The work first presents a sound thermodynamic foundation for the thermo- viscoelectricity. This part is based on a previous work by \textit{J. Bree} and the first author [J. Non-Equilibrium Thermodynamics, 4, 159-192 (1979)] which already extended Carathéodory's classical approach to thermodynamics. A simple constitutive approach is given which can be used for discussing the usual thermoelectric effects. Some stability results for classical solutions of initial-boundary value problems are also deduced.
