The authors study ``Goldbach numbers'' in short intervals under the assumption of the generalized Riemann hypothesis, and prove the following result: if \(H/\log^ 6 x\to \infty\), then all even integers in the interval \((x,x+H)\), with at most \(\ll H^{1/2}\log^ 3 x\) exceptions, are sums of two primes. An unconditional result in the same problem was previously obtained by the two last-named authors [J. Lond. Math. Soc., II. Ser. 47, 41-49 (1993)].
