The author deals with a system of \(M\) queues with Poisson arrivals and general service time. The single server serves the \(M\) queues in a specific fixed order. Only when the queue in service is emptied, the server moves to the next one. If the whole system is empty, the server stops and resumes his activity only when a new arrival occurs. Switch- over times are taken into account. The usual characteristics of a queueing system are developed for several possibilities of server behaviour in the case of stopping and resuming service.
