Let \(U_1, U_2, ..., U_n\) be simply-connected plane domains whose closures are pairwise disjoint and contained in a simply-connected domain \(W\). Let \(f:\cup^{n}_{i=1}U_{i}\rightarrow W\) be an analytic map such that \(f|_{U_{i}}\) is a proper map onto \(W\) for each \(i\). Then \(f\) is called a generalized polynomial-like map. If \(n=1\), then \(f\) is called polynomial-like. The filled-in Julia set \(K_{f}\) consists of all \(z\in \cup^{n}_{i=1}U_{i}\) for which all iterates \(f^{n}(z)\) are defined. The Julia set \(J_{f}\) is the boundary of \(K_{f}\). \medskip The first result of this paper is that there exists for every generalized polynomial-like map \(f\) an \(f\)-invariant ergodic measure \(\mu\) which is equivalent to the harmonic measure on \(J_{f}\) (evaluated at \(\infty\)). It is of the form \(\mu=\triangle \tilde{G}\) for some continuous subharmonic function \(\tilde{G}\) defined on a neighborhood of \(K_{f}\) which vanishes on \(K_{f}\) and is harmonic and positive outside \(K_{f}\). \medskip For a polynomial-like map \(f\) it is shown that the measure of maximal entropy is equivalent to the harmonic measure if and only if \(f\) is conformally equivalent to a polynomial. \medskip Finally, it is shown that if \(K_{f}\) is not connected, then the Hausdorff dimension of harmonic measure is strictly less than one.
