Let \(F\) be a field of characteristic zero and \(M_n(F)\) the algebra of \(n\times n\) matrices over \(F\). A quantization of \(M_n(F)\) was defined by \textit{R. Dipper} and \textit{S. Donkin} in [Proc. Lond. Math. Soc., III. Ser. 63, 165-211 (1991; Zbl 0734.20018)]. The authors compute the center of this quantized algebra in the special case where the parameter \(q\) is a root of unity. This seems to cover the interesting applications.
