An extension of the results of \textit{O. Axelsson} and \textit{V. Eijkhout} [SIAM J. Sci. Stat. Comput. 12, No. 6, 1379-1400 (1991; Zbl 0738.65019)] and of \textit{O. Axelsson} and \textit{L. Kolotilina} [Numer. Linear Algebra Appl. 1, No. 2, 155-177 (1994; Zbl 0837.65023)] is presented with convergence and complexity analysis. Computer experiments indicate nearly optimal order of complexity and rate of convergence for the given problem.
