The author gives a characterization of those closed connected Haken 3- manifolds of genus 2 which have a non-trivial torus decomposition. The characterization is in terms of identification spaces of A) Seifert fibered manifolds with orbit a disc, annulus or Möbius band, B) exteriors of two bridge knots or links, and C) exteriors of one bridge knots in lens spaces, where the exterior admits a complete hyperbolic structure or a Seifert fibration without regular meridian fibers.
