The author studies the existence and uniqueness of solutions of various nonlinear elliptic boundary value problems arising in the theory of lubrication. Specially these reate to, incompressible lubricant with varying viscosity with temperature and pressure (Reynolds equation coupled with the energy equation); compressible lubricant with constant viscosity, and a porous bearing problem for a compressible lubricant.
