The authors consider initial-boundary value problems for singularly perturbed Ginzburg-Landau and transonic nozzle equations. In each case, the differential operator is perturbed by an exponentially small spatially inhomogeneous term. It is shown that such a perturbation often leads to the existence of new stable equilibrium solutions, not existing in the non-perturbed case. The conclusions are compared with numerical results.
