The author derives some results in the dynamics of an elastic body containing a moving crack. It is proved that the energy release rate and the rate of entropy production are proportional. A theorem of the domain of influence type and a uniqueness theorem for solutions to the boundary- initial-value problem of brittle fracture mechanics are proved.
