The \(p\)-harmonic heat flow is the evolution problem associated to the \(p\)-energy \(E(u):=\int_M|Du|^p\) of maps \(u:M\to N\) between compact Riemannian manifolds. While the case \(p=2\) is reasonably well-understood, in the case \(p\neq 2\) even existence of weak solutions is a problem. It was proved by \textit{N. Hungerbühler} [Indiana Univ. Math. J. 45, 275-288 (1996; Zbl 0857.35053)] that there is a global weak solution if \(2<p<\dim M\) and \(N\) is a homogeneous space with left-invariant Riemannian metric. Here this result is generalized to \(1<p<\dim M\), moreover the equation is allowed to have an additional right hand side coming from a potential. The weak solution has finite \(p\)-energy.
