In a reformulation of a conjecture of \textit{S. K. Stein} [Pac. J. Math. 59, 567-575 (1975; Zbl 0302.05015)], which he has tried to prove without success so far, the author conjectures that if n-1 different elements form a partial transversal of length n-1 in a given \(n\times n\)-matrix, they then can be completed to an equi-n-square which is isotopic to an arbitrary given equi-n-square.
