    This paper considers the optimal control problem of tracking a prescribed nonperiodic trajectory on an infinite time interval. The plant is linear and time-invariant, and the cost quadratic. Optimal solutions with respect to the overtaking criterion are studied; a linear feedback law is derived which is shown to be the same as in the periodic case.
