For G an n-connected domain in \({\mathbb{C}}\) bounded by analytic curves, a concept of rational capacity \(\lambda =^{def}dist_{C(\bar G)}(\bar z,R(\bar G))=\) uniform distance of \(\bar z\) to continuous functions analytic in G, is introduced and studied in the paper. It turns out, and this is the major result of the paper that the area of the image \(\phi^*(G)\), where \(\phi^*\) is the best analytic approximation to \(\bar z\) can be easily expressed in terms of n, \(\lambda\), the number of zeros of the extremal function in the dual problem and the area a of G. As corollary, we obtain the classical isoperimetric inequality with sharp constants and also show that the area of \(\phi^*(G)\) is always dominated by the ''isoperimetric deficiency'' \((p^ 2/4\pi)(1-4\pi (a/p^ 2))\) of G. \((P=perimeter\) of G), when G is simply connected.
