Canonically embedded regular surfaces with \(K^ 2=3p_ g-7\) are classified, generally following the treatment of Castelnuovo and Harris. The case of \(p_ g=7\) and \(K^ 2=14\) is discussed in some detail; in this case there is a component of the moduli space which consists of surfaces which are everywhere obstructed: the Kuranishi family for the general member of this component is not reduced.
