The problem of computing material balance in automatic control systems for continuous processes is formulated as a dynamic problem of estimating the costs and reserve capacities in noisy measurements. It is shown that the estimation problem decomposes if material flow losses in the production graph are measured very precisely or are nearly constant. The conditions under which the decomposed estimate is suboptimal are studied using perturbation theory.
