Let \(\psi_ 0\psi_ 1,..\). denote the Walsh-Paley system. A subsequence \(n_ 1\), \(n_ 2,..\). of integers is said to be weakly lacunary if there is a non-negative monotone decreasing sequence \(\omega\) (k) satisfying \(k^{\alpha}\omega (k)\to \infty\) as \(k\to \infty\) for every \(0<\alpha <1\) such that \(n_{k+1}/n_ k\geq 1+\omega (k)\) for \(k=1,2,..\). The author proves the following generalization of a theorem due to Prohorenko. Let \(a_ 1\), \(a_ 2,..\). be a sequence of non-negative numbers and set \(A_ k=(\sum^{k}_{n=1}a^ 2_ n)^{1/2}\) for \(k=1,2,..\).. If \(A_ k\to \infty\) and \(a_ k=O(A_ k\omega\) (k)) as \(k\to \infty\) then the weakly lacunary Walsh-Fourier series \(\sum^{\infty}_{k=1}a_ k\psi_{n_ k}\) diverges a.e. and is not a Walsh-Fourier series. Moreover, it is not summable on any set of positive measure by any positive regular method of summation.
