It is proved that the identity map from the functions of bounded variation of \({\mathbb{R}}^ k\) with the total variation norm to the same set of functions with the sup norm is of type 2. As the author says, ``since obtaining Theorem 1, the author has learned that an elegant and more general result has recently been obtained by \textit{G. Pisier}, Ann. Inst. Henri Poincaré, Probab. Stat. 20, 287-298 (1984; Zbl 0555.60005).
