This paper attempts to construct solutions of the nonlinear Boltzmann equation using inverse scattering theory. However, the analysis is based on an erroneous reformulation of the equation. The error is in not including the distribution function \(f'=f(P)\) prior to collisions inside the \(p_ 1\)-integral in the gain part of the collision operator. This is required since P (the velocity before collision) depends on both p and \(p_ 1\) (the velocities after the collision).
