Since the derivative of the binomial coefficient is related to the harmonic numbers, i.e. \[ \left.\frac{d}{dx}{x+n \choose m}\right| _{x=0}={x+n \choose m}(H_n - H_{n-m})\;\;(m\leqq n), \] taking the derivative of known binomial identities gives new results in terms of the harmonic numbers. The authors use the well-known theorems by Vandermonde, Pfaff-Saalschütz, Dougall-Dixon and Whipple to detect new and interesting identities.
