The author deals with \[ f(x,y,z,u,\text{grad} u,Hu)=g(x,y,z),\quad x,y\in {\mathbb{R}},\quad 0<y<1, \] \[ u_ y-Fu_{xx}=\rho (x,z,u,u),\quad x,z\in {\mathbb{R}},\quad y=1;\quad u=0,\quad x,y\in {\mathbb{R}},\quad y=0, \] where f, g, \(\rho\) are sufficiently smooth functions, \(2\pi\)-periodic in x and z, and Hu denotes the Hessian matrix of u. Besides other assumptions f satisfies the ellipticity condition: there exists \(c>0\) with \[ \sum^{3}_{i,j=1}(\partial_{ij}f)(x,y,z,u,p,.)\xi_ i\xi_ j\geq c| \xi |^ 2 \] for all \(x,z\in {\mathbb{R}}\), \(0<y<1\), \(u\in {\mathbb{R}}\), \(p,\xi \in {\mathbb{R}}^ 2.\) He shows for g sufficiently small in the \(L_ 2\)-norm via the contraction mapping principle that the above problem has a solution \(2\pi\)-periodic in x and z.
