The aim of the paper is to extend to Hilbert and Banach spaces certain results concerning the ``infinity Laplacian'' and related concepts proved in the finite-dimensional case in [\textit{M. G. Crandall, L. C. Evans} and \textit{R. Gariepy}, Calc. Var. Partial Differ. Equ. 13, No. 2, 123--139 (2001; Zbl 0996.49019)] and [\textit{R. Jensen}, Arch. Rat. Mech. Anal. 123, No.~1, 51--74 (1993; Zbl 0789.35008)]. The author extends to Hilbert spaces the infinity Laplacian, \[ \Delta_\infty u(x):= \bigl\langle D^{2}u(x)Du(x),Du(x)\bigr\rangle, x\in \Omega\subset X, \] for \(C^2\)-smooth functions, the concept of viscosity solution of the equation \(-\Delta_\infty u=0\) (\(\infty\)-harmonic function) and extends to Banach spaces the concepts of absolutely minimizing Lip\-schitz (AML) functions and, respectively, of functions that have the cone property. The main result of the paper is Theorem 1.5 proving that in Hilbert spaces, the three properties (i.e., \(\infty\)-harmonicity, AML and the cone property) are equivalent while in Banach spaces the last two properties are equivalent; moreover, in Theorem 1.6 it is proved the existence of a function with the cone property in \(\Omega\subset X\) that extends a given Lipschitz function defined on the boundary \(\partial \Omega\) of a domain in a Banach space.
