This paper considers the situation of space partitioned into three or more regions (phases) and the motion of the interfaces between these phases. After introducing the notion of least-time solutions, the author shows that this principle is sufficient to prove existence and uniqueness for physically realistic problems. Also considered are consistent solutions, and again existence and uniqueness of these solutions is discussed.
