The authors present a symmetric Galerkin boundary element method (SGBEM) for solution of dynamic boundary value problems in elasto-plastic analysis with using elastostatic kernels (derived from the time-independent Kelvin solutions for unbounded spaces). As compared with a collocation BEM approach, the number of integrations is doubled in the Galerkin approach. However, only double integrations are required instead of quadruple ones required by the SGBEM in elastodynamics with time-dependent kernels. On the other hand, domain integrals of inertia terms appear, and a time-integration scheme is to be employed in the proposed formulation. Both the boundary and domain integrals are regularized independently of discretization and/or interpolation. Assuming space discretization as well as an appropriate time-step formulation, the authors propose an iterative algorithm and study its convergence and algorithmic stability. Finally, two numerical comparative tests are given.
