The paper displays a detailed describing of phase transitions in a general class of kinetic models for self-propelled particles interacting through alignment. These models are quite relevant to describe the dynamics of societal systems. One deals successively with the kinetic model itself and its equilibrium, stability and rates of convergence to equilibrium, phase transitions, and macroscopic models with hyperbolicity and diffusivity.
