The paper is concerned with a nonlinear variable-order fractional wave differential equation that describes the vibration of a single particle attached to a viscoelastic material. The authors' purpose is to consider the fundamental properties of well-posedness of the problem and regularity of the solutions. Following preliminaries, in which the problem is introduced, the authors provide a result on well-posedness, based on natural assumptions of Lipschitz continuity. Under the corresponding assumptions, the authors go on to prove regularity of the solutions, which is an important property in the context of fractional order problems.
