Let \(T\) be a nondegenerate simplex in \(\mathbb{R}^n\) with faces \(G_0\), \(G_1\), \dots, \(G_n\), and let \(u\) be an eigenfunction of the zero Dirichlet Laplacian in \(T\) associated with an eigenvalue \(\lambda\). The author establishes the following interesting formula: \[ \int_{G_j} \left|\frac{\partial u}{\partial \nu}\right|^2 \, dS_j = \frac{2 \lambda \|u\|_{L^2(T)}^2 \text{Vol}_{n-1}(G_j)}{n\text{Vol}_n(T)} \quad \text{for all}~ j \in \{0,\dots,n\}, \] where \(\nu\) is the outward unit normal to a face \(G_j\). Notice that the formula is exact and holds for any eigenfunction \(u\). This result is a generalization of [the author, Proc. Am. Math. Soc. 145, No. 12, 5247--5255 (2017; Zbl 1387.35162)] to higher dimensions. Moreover, the author studies the inverse problem of determining the constant coefficients of an elliptic operator through prescribed values of \(L^2\)-norms of the Neumann data (on faces of a simplex) of an eigenfunction.
