A modification of the method of averaging to construct approximate solutions of the dynamic equations of the theory of linear elasticity of an heterogeneous medium as the synthesis of successive approximations with a probabilistic approach is considered. It is assumed that the elastic coefficients of the medium and its density are random functions of the spatial coordinates. Harmonic wave propagation is investigated. In the zeroth approximation the inhomogeneous medium is described by an effective medium possessing spatial dispersion. Error estimates are given for the zeroth approximation.
