Let \(A=\mathbb F_ r[U]\) be the polynomial ring over a finite field \(\mathbb F_ r\) of characteristic \(p\) with \(r\) elements, \(k=\mathbb F_ r(U)\) its quotient field, and \(K=k_ \infty=\mathbb F_ r((1/U))\) its completion at the infinite place. The basic observation is that every continuous function \(g:\mathbb Z_ p\to K\) has a Mahler expansion \(g(x)=\sum b_ j{x \choose j}\) with \(b_ j\in K\) and \(b_ j\to 0\). Conversely, each such series defines a \(K\)-valued function on \(\mathbb Z_ p\). Similarly, the algebra \(K_ b[[T]]\) of power series over \(K\) with bounded denominator may be identified with the algebra of \(K\)-valued measures on \(\mathbb Z_ p\), where multiplication corresponds to convolution. The author applies his earlier work to define some kind of Fourier transform \(\hat g(x)\), for which he finds analogues of e.g. Parseval's formula and the Poisson sum formula.
