This book provides the reader with a novel approach to the design and study of neural nets. It presents a new computer concept, the concept of synergetic computers, with a number of explicit examples of its applications. New detailed models of the cognitive abilities of humans are given and compared with the performance of the synergetic computer. It is shown that the cognitive processes can be conceived as spontaneous pattern formation. This book is intended for graduate students, teachers and researchers in the computer science, cognitive sciences and physics.
